The Tili Vini Guest Homes project is located in the scenic landscapes of Umbria, Italy. It brings together architecture and nature, offering visitors a special experience. This initiative features various guest accommodations, including small cabins and larger luxury suites, all designed to promote interaction with the surrounding environment. The concept centers around creating a strong bond between the built structures and their natural setting, inviting guests to fully engage with the tranquil landscape.

Architecture and Landscape Integration

The design highlights the importance of connecting buildings to the landscape. Pathways are thoughtfully placed throughout the site, linking guest homes to shared outdoor spaces. This encourages visitors to explore and enjoy their surroundings. The layout is intended to facilitate movement, allowing guests to appreciate both the architecture and the natural features that frame the site.

Repurposing Existing Structures

An important aspect of the design is the focus on reusing existing buildings. The largest structure has been converted into a premium guest suite, while smaller ones serve as dining and wine tasting areas. This approach not only preserves the historical significance of these buildings but also reduces environmental impact by integrating them into the new design. It allows visitors to appreciate the charm of the old while enjoying modern comforts.

Interior Design and Spatial Experience

The interiors of the guest homes are designed to maximize natural light and provide views of the beautiful Umbrian Valley. Upper-floor bedrooms overlook the living areas below, featuring long windows that frame the landscape. This design choice connects guests to the outdoors while ensuring comfort and intimacy. The balance of light and space creates a welcoming atmosphere throughout the homes.

Landscaping and Outdoor Amenities

The landscape design plays a crucial role, incorporating gardens, meditation areas, and picnic spots. Local plants and trees are used to enhance the environment. This thoughtful landscaping revitalizes the area and creates spaces for visitors to relax and reflect. Pathways and amenities are carefully arranged to encourage interaction with nature and promote a deeper engagement with the surroundings.

Special attention to detail can be seen in various design elements, such as the interplay of indoor and outdoor spaces. This design invites guests to feel a sense of home while also encouraging them to connect with the natural beauty of Umbria.

Competition organisers

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.

Key dates for MICROHOME 10 include the closing date for registration on 25 September 2025, the submission deadline on 29 October 2025 (11:59 p.m. London time), and the announcement of winners on 9 December 2025. These milestones ensure participants have clear timelines to develop and present their concepts, with early registration discounts available to support students and emerging designers worldwide.
