The Monte d'Oiro Wine Tasting Room is located in a vineyard setting, designed to enhance the experience of wine tasting. The concept balances traditional architecture with a deep connection to the landscape. Visitors can enjoy the natural beauty while engaging with the space, which serves as both a functional area and a framework for exploring the surroundings.

Architectural Component

The design incorporates features reminiscent of traditional Portuguese architecture. Pointed stone walls and deep recesses create a sense of depth and texture. An inverted pitched roof distinguishes the functional areas within the building. A smaller section houses essential facilities, such as bathrooms and storage, while a more extensive space provides seating for guests. This larger area includes a table for wine tasting, allowing visitors to savor the panoramic views of the vineyard.

Environmental Component

The experience of walking through the vineyard is reflected in the pathway leading to a cantilevered viewing platform. The pathway gradually narrows, inviting visitors to move forward steadily. As they walk, guests are drawn toward the views beyond, which fosters a feeling of exploration. The design encourages a close relationship between the building and the landscape, enriching the wine-tasting experience.

Materials and Finishes

Natural materials contribute to the sense of place. The walls are built from natural stone, pointed with white lime mortar on the outside and exposed on the inside. Timber supports the roof, while terracotta-colored steel is used for the roof itself. These choices connect the building to local traditions and blend it with the environment, providing warmth and familiarity.

Arched openings are strategically placed to frame views of the surrounding landscape. These openings not only enhance the aesthetics but also encourage natural light to enter the spaces.
