Floating Cubes With Hologram Displays Amidst Coastal Serenity

Project in-detail

Floating cubes with transparent surfaces and interactive hologram displays create a contemporary virtual house on a coastal island, designed for both professional work and social engagement.
5 key facts about this project
01
Floating cubes create a visually engaging structure that appears to defy gravity.
02
An infinity pool surrounds the first level, enhancing the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
03
Interactive tables and hologram screens are integrated into the workspace, promoting modern collaboration.
04
A dedicated area for NFT showcases addresses contemporary digital art interests.
05
The layout emphasizes both public social spaces and private retreats, balancing community and personal reflection.

The project features a virtual house located on a small island surrounded by ocean and steep cliffs. The design concept employs simple geometric shapes, particularly cubes, to arrange spaces efficiently. This approach aims to create a living environment that is comfortable and familiar, while also exploring the connection between physical and digital experiences.

Functional Organization

Three distinct levels showcase various functions tailored to meet user needs. The first level serves as an office space with a meeting room for about ten people. It includes an interactive table and a hologram screen, highlighting the integration of technology in modern work. An infinity pool wraps around this level, enhancing the relationship between the indoor and outdoor areas.

Social Interaction

The second level focuses on social activities and leisure. This space is multifunctional, equipped with a DJ booth, dance floor, and audio speakers. Such features promote interaction among users, allowing them to enjoy gatherings and entertainment. The design reflects contemporary lifestyle trends that emphasize both communal and individual experiences.

Private Retreat

The top level is dedicated to privacy and relaxation. This living room also acts as a theater and game room, featuring a conversation pit for casual meetings and a large display screen for movies and games. The arrangement balances leisure and comfort, creating a personal escape from the busier lower levels.

The use of lighting and glass throughout the structure enhances visibility and flow. Natural light filters into the interior spaces, while open terraces connect users to the beautiful landscape. This thoughtful design promotes a strong relationship between the house and its surroundings, creating a harmonious living experience.

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.
