Taconeo Tower, located just north of the Al Wathba Wetland Reserve, brings together nature and thoughtful design. The structure draws its inspiration from flamenco dance, particularly the “taconeo” technique, which reflects the rhythmic foot movement of dancers. This project serves as an observation point, inviting visitors to engage with the unique wildlife of the area, especially the greater flamingos. The design concept emphasizes a connection to the natural surroundings.

Design Concept

The form of Taconeo Tower is shaped by the movements of flamingos, using abstract lines to mimic their graceful actions. Horizontal lines create spaces for various activities, allowing for interaction with the environment. In contrast, vertical and diagonal lines represent the legs of the flamingos, creating a visual link to these birds. This approach combines functionality with an artistic interpretation of nature, enhancing the overall experience for visitors.

Accessibility Features

The design prioritizes accessibility by including both stairs and ramps, making it easier for all visitors to reach the observation areas. This commitment to inclusivity ensures that everyone, regardless of mobility, can appreciate the wildlife and educational opportunities the tower offers. Such features create an open environment where diverse audiences can explore and learn about the local ecosystem.

Material Choices

For the foundation, reinforcement concrete is used to provide strength and stability through isolated footings and piles. Bamboo is chosen for the flooring, handrails, and connections, highlighting sustainability and resilience. Using these materials reflects a growing awareness of the importance of eco-friendly practices in construction, echoing the project's respect for the environment.

Design Details

Shading devices are strategically placed near water surfaces to reduce disturbances to the wildlife. This thoughtfulness in design shows a genuine intention to blend seamlessly with the landscape. The careful combination of natural elements and architectural form invites visitors to experience the beauty of flamingos in their habitat, while also appreciating the detailed design of Taconeo Tower.
