Rome Rain Rooms competition Honorable mention winner - Simone Campora

We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the Honorable mention winner of our Rome Rain Rooms competition – Simone Campora from Italy!

Please tell us about your company (when it was founded, where it is based, how many employees, etc) Alternatively, if you do not have a company, please give us some insights on your own professional/academia background.

We are a group of university students studying Architecture at the Department of Architecture and Design (DAD) of the University of Genoa: Simone Campora, Dante Bassetti, Gloria Ballotta, and Asia Nembro.

Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance, what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where the company/ individuals have been Involved?

The Specula Aquae project for the Rome Rain Rooms competition was our first architecture competition, developed as part of our second-year Architectural Design Studio course.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

For us, architecture is a means through which we can transform space, a tool capable of responding to the needs of people within a specific environment. As architects, we are able to interpret our contemporary society and imagine new ways of living. Beyond the aesthetic aspect, architecture requires us to explore functional solutions capable of improving people’s quality of life.

Why do you participate in architecture competitions?

We participated in the Rome Rain Rooms competition following the recommendation of our Architectural Design Studio professor, Enrico Molteni, lecturer at the Department of Architecture and Design of the University of Genoa.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?

Participating in this architecture competition gave us the opportunity to engage with new themes and design challenges. We would recommend that all groups of architecture students take part in competitions, as they are a valuable way to challenge themselves, develop their own working method, and learn how to turn an idea into a complete project while working within specific deadlines and constraints.
