Design a story of your country.
Your place
Choose a country
Drag the planet. Click a country to choose it.
The Earth seen from orbit at dawn: every land dot is a real place. Turn the planet and choose a country, the first step of the brief.
Every place carries a story, not just of its past, but of its present values and future possibilities. Architecture can give form to those stories, offering a way to express culture, ideas, and identity without relying on words. A pavilion, in its simplicity and scale, is an ideal format for this kind of expression. It invites reflection, exploration, and dialogue. It is not about size or permanence, but about clarity of thought and the power of a spatial idea.

Pavilion Atlas 2027 is the second edition of the design competition launched by Buildner, calling on architects and designers to reimagine how a country can present itself to the world: not through symbols or spectacle, but through architectural storytelling. Each participant is invited to design a conceptual pavilion for a country of their choice, using space to communicate a meaningful idea rooted in that place. What defines the country today? What questions is it asking? What could it share with the world through design?
Whether inspired by cultural traditions, ecological concerns, social values, technological aspirations, or political realities, the pavilion should serve as a spatial narrative. A statement. A story made architecture.
Choose a country, ideally one you feel connected to, and design a conceptual pavilion that expresses a clear architectural idea. The design should go beyond aesthetics. It should be more than a structure: it should be an experience that communicates something real, current, or necessary. You may draw from the country's material palette, rituals, climate, conflicts, heritage, or imagined futures, but the pavilion must deliver a message that matters.

There are no restrictions on location, budget, or buildability. This is a conceptual design challenge. Focus on spatial storytelling, clarity of purpose, and imaginative execution.
Participants are encouraged to explore the full range of what a pavilion can be. It may be abstract or literal, futuristic or grounded in tradition. But above all, it should convey something essential about the country it represents: not as it is seen on a map, but as it is felt, lived, or imagined.

Open to all. No professional qualifications are required. Enter individually or as a team, and bring your boldest idea for a pavilion that tells the story of a country.
The official language of the competition is English. All communication is carried out in English.

Skills
The Pavilion Atlas 2027 competition is designed to strengthen these skills:
Trained by the brief itself; the optional design assessment turns your submission into structured feedback.
Winning projects have the potential to be realised.
The competition client has expressed interest in constructing the winning project. The site is real, and the awarded proposals go directly to the client's table.
Winning does not guarantee construction; the final decision always rests with the client.
Build your name, attract new clients and partnerships
Publication is guaranteed for every winning entry: online, in print, and across international media.
Winners are showcased on ArchDaily, the world's most-visited architecture platform, through its partnership with Buildner: visibility that brings new opportunities, clients and reputation.
Winning projects are printed in Buildner's annual book, a permanent, physical record of the year's best unbuilt architecture, distributed internationally.
A published interview and a permanent project page on Buildner tell the story in your own words, and stay linkable for as long as your career needs them.
Buildner consolidates prize funds from its individual competitions into one larger, more impactful award given once a year: the 50,000 € Buildner Medal. A prize of that size is truly life-changing. It can start a practice, fund a business, or pay off school loans. Every winning project here earns the invitation.
This international competition is open to architects, artists, and creatives from all backgrounds. Whether you are an emerging talent, an established professional, or exploring a bold new idea, your vision is welcome. All submissions must be completed in English to ensure fair evaluation.
