FLOAT REVOLUTION is an architectural concept that addresses the challenges of vertical circulation within high-rise buildings. Set in a dynamic urban environment, it aims to create a functional space where people can move freely and intuitively. The design draws inspiration from past technological advances in elevators, particularly the innovations introduced by Elisha Graves Otis in 1853. This approach represents a shift away from traditional high-rise designs, focusing instead on how users can interact with and navigate their environment.

Innovative Circulation System

The design features a new approach to circulation, inspired by the principles of indoor skydiving technology. This allows movement throughout the building to feel less restricted and more fluid. Wind tunnels and interchange platforms are integrated to connect different spaces effectively. By reducing reliance on standard stairs and elevators, the building enhances how people experience their surroundings, encouraging exploration and interaction.

Spatial Organization and Functionality

FLOAT REVOLUTION includes a broad range of spaces, such as homes, offices, restaurants, and recreational areas like parks and pavilions. Each space is purposefully designed to meet specific needs while promoting connections between users. This organization supports both personal activities and social interactions. The layout enhances community engagement, allowing people to feel a sense of belonging within the larger environment.

Architectural Language and Structural Concepts

The project challenges traditional design elements like columns, beams, and slabs. This rethinking broadens the possibilities for how space can be arranged and experienced. By using a strategy that combines centralization with fragmentation, the design encourages fluid movement and interaction among different areas. This approach creates a versatile atmosphere where users can navigate the building based on their needs.

Textural Detail and Design Aesthetics

The overall aesthetic of FLOAT REVOLUTION features a mix of open spaces and carefully defined areas. This balance keeps users connected with their environment, inviting them to engage with the diverse activities available. As people move through the building, they encounter different experiences that promote exploration and interaction. With its thoughtful design, the building successfully redefines how high-rise structures can enhance urban life.

The Next House: USA — A Global Call to Reimagine the American Suburb

`
Competition organisers

Buildner is launching The Next House: USA, a global architecture competition that challenges architects, designers, and thinkers to reimagine the American suburban home for the 21st century. For decades, the suburban house has symbolized comfort and stability, but today it often reflects excess, isolation, and environmental strain. This competition asks: how can the American home evolve to address climate urgency, economic pressures, and shifting social values?

Participants are tasked with designing a prototype home of no more than 1,500 sq ft (≈140 m²) for a household of two adults and one child. The design should be compact yet generous, adaptable, sustainable, affordable, and replicable across diverse U.S. contexts. More than a design exercise, the competition aims to spark a conversation about how homes can support healthier, smarter, and more connected communities.

The total prize fund is $20,000 USD. The final registration deadline is May 20, 2026, and winners will be announced on September 22, 2026. The Next House: USA invites architects, students, and visionaries worldwide to redefine what the American home means today—and what it should mean tomorrow.
