Fiber Cellulose Insulation and WBP Plywood Homes with Private Gardens in London

Project in-detail

Reinforced concrete structures with fiber cellulose insulation and WBP plywood blend seamlessly with terraced homes and private gardens in London's Peckham, providing adaptable living spaces that encourage community interaction.
5 key facts about this project
01
Reinforced concrete ring beams provide structural stability while allowing for open floor plans.
02
Private gardens enhance resident interaction and green space in an urban setting.
03
WBP plywood serves as a vapor barrier, improving moisture control within homes.
04
Fiber cellulose insulation contributes to energy efficiency and sound dampening.
05
Terraced homes promote community living and social cohesion among residents.

The architectural design responds to the housing needs that emerged in London after World War II, particularly in the vibrant district of Peckham. The goal is to create living spaces that promote community and integrate well with the natural environment. The emphasis is on developing areas that connect the indoors and outdoors, making it easier for residents to interact with each other and enjoy the benefits of nature.

Community Connection

At the core of the design are terraced homes, each featuring private gardens that foster a sense of community. These gardens provide residents with places to gather and connect, enriching their living experience in an urban setting. The design isn’t just about individual units; it is about creating an environment that encourages social ties while adding much-needed green space in a crowded city.

Flexible Living

Flexibility is a key aspect of these homes, designed to serve multiple purposes. Each residence can adapt to various activities such as living, working, and recreational needs. This approach reflects how people balance different aspects of their lives today. The layout allows for easy movement from one area to another, ensuring that every space is functional and inviting without losing comfort.

Material Considerations

In creating these homes, careful attention is paid to the choice of materials to ensure they are both durable and sustainable. WBP plywood is used as a vapor barrier, helping manage moisture. Treated softwood battens offer structural strength over time, while British Gypsum plasterboard provides a clean finish that is pleasing to the eye. Double-glazed windows not only improve energy efficiency but also enhance comfort by reducing outside noise, creating a peaceful living environment.

Structural Framework

The buildings rely on a strong framework made of reinforced concrete ring beams and steel frame decks. These elements ensure that the structures are stable and long-lasting. Inside, fiber cellulose insulation is utilized for its excellent thermal and acoustic performance, creating comfortable living spaces throughout the year. Each component works together to support a housing solution that is practical and responsive to residents' needs.

Designed with careful thought, the homes provide not just shelter but also a space where community can thrive, contributing to the unique character of Peckham.
