Curvilinear Concrete Structure Merging Transparent Glass and Organic Surroundings

Project in-detail

An oval concrete form enveloped in natural light creates a tranquil memorial space that harmonizes with the surrounding landscape, inviting reflection and contemplation.
5 key facts about this project
01
An oval design enhances the sense of continuity and reflection within the memorial space.
02
Translucent glass elements create an intertwining relationship between the interior and the surrounding landscape.
03
Curated flora is utilized to promote biodiversity while visually representing life cycles.
04
Reinforced concrete provides structural integrity while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic.
05
The urn serves as a central focal point, symbolizing memory and inviting personal contemplation.
The "Veiled Garden" is an architectural project designed as a reflective space, thoughtfully integrating both natural and built environments. Situated within a wooded area, it serves as a sanctuary for contemplation, honoring the relationship between life and death. The design employs an oval layout, promoting a sense of continuity and inviting interaction with its surroundings. Within this context, the garden's focal point is an urn, symbolizing memory and loss, establishing a significant element of emotional resonance.

Unique Design Approaches

The "Veiled Garden" distinguishes itself through its nuanced integration of natural materials and contemporary architectural practices. The use of reinforced concrete provides stability and durability while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic. Complementary metal elements, including aluminum frames, enhance structural integrity without detracting from the overall design. The careful application of glass allows for transparency, creating an immersive experience that helps visitors engage with both the architecture and the natural landscape.

Another distinguishing feature is the selection of flora, which includes diverse species such as Chrysanthemum 'Overture' and Coreopsis Tinctoria. These plants are not only visually appealing but also contribute to biodiversity. Their inclusion reflects a commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness, aligning with the project’s overarching themes of life and continuity.

Architectural Elements

The architectural design encapsulates various elements that enhance its function as a reflective space. The oval form deviates from conventional memorial designs, encouraging visitors to traverse its pathways while promoting introspection. The strategic layout maximizes natural light, fostering a calm atmosphere conducive to meditation. Furthermore, the integration of soft landscaping with carefully curated plant species reinforces the connection between the built form and the natural environment, enhancing the sensory experience of the garden.

In addition to the urn, subtle landscape features such as seating areas and pathways are designed to facilitate contemplation and interaction. These elements encourage visitors to linger and reflect, fulfilling the project’s intended purpose.
