5 key facts about this project
The Stone Barn Meditation Camp provides a retreat for reflection and disconnection within a quiet natural setting. The design integrates modern architectural elements with the surrounding landscape, supporting both communal engagement and personal solitude. Drawing on Latvian cultural symbols and folklore, it enriches the site’s meaning while encouraging a deeper connection to nature.
Architectural and Spatial Strategy
A renovated stone barn forms the central structure, accommodating up to 16 guests while preserving local heritage and minimising environmental impact. The interior opens with a shared kitchen and dining space for communal gatherings, alongside a library and lounge that offer views of the forest for moments of contemplation. The arrangement balances spaces for interaction with areas designed for quiet reflection.
Key Features and Materiality
An elevated Silence Chamber provides an environment for undisturbed meditation, with large windows admitting daylight and framing views of the surrounding landscape. Stone and oak wood define the material palette, combining structural integrity with tactile warmth. The stone maintains the barn’s rustic character, while oak lends a natural finish to the interiors, contributing to a calm and restorative atmosphere.
