Curved Timber Shelters Embracing Local Fairytales Along EuroVelo 6

Project in-detail

Curved timber shells inspired by local fairytales provide travelers along the EuroVelo 6 route with functional resting cabins that reflect the region's cultural heritage.
5 key facts about this project
01
Curved timber shells provide both structural integrity and aesthetic appeal.
02
Cabins are named after local fairytales, enriching visitor experience.
03
Configurable layouts accommodate various user needs and group sizes.
04
Natural light is optimized through strategically placed perforated panels.
05
Sustainably sourced materials minimize ecological impact along the EuroVelo 6 route.

The resting cabins are situated along the EuroVelo 6 route, designed to provide travelers with welcoming spaces to relax and recharge. Drawing inspiration from historical road systems of the Roman Empire, these structures act as modern-day milestones, guiding visitors through varied European landscapes. The overall design reflects a connection to both the past and the present, merging practical needs with elements of architectural history.

Form and Structure
The cabins feature dual curved shells, creating a flowing form that recalls the shapes of gothic arches. This design enhances their aesthetic appeal while ensuring stability. The curves also help to channel rainwater effectively, contributing to the cabins’ environmental performance. The arrangement of spaces within each cabin promotes natural movement, allowing occupants to navigate from the entrance to communal and private areas with ease.

Spatial Organization
Each cabin is organized into three main areas to meet diverse user needs. At the entrance, a ramp leads to an outdoor space equipped with a fireplace, providing a cozy gathering spot. The common area offers a higher ceiling and flexible seating, encouraging social interaction among visitors. On a lower level, the private facilities include a kitchen and bathroom, making it easier for occupants to enjoy their stay comfortably.

Material and Craftsmanship
Sustainability plays an important role in the choice of materials. Local wood is used to minimize the environmental impact, creating a connection between the cabins and the surrounding landscape. Metal panels on the northern facade are perforated to allow light while protecting the interior from harsh weather. This selection demonstrates a commitment to local craftsmanship, enriching the overall character of the cabins.

Cultural Context
The cabins may be named after European fairytales, linking them to narratives tied to the local area. This approach deepens the experience for travelers, inviting them to engage with the stories and history that shape their surroundings. The incorporation of cultural elements allows the cabins to serve as places for both rest and reflection, adding an enriching layer to the journey along the route.

Design details include carefully placed openings that filter natural light, creating a peaceful ambiance inside. This approach encourages guests to connect with nature and enjoy moments of quiet reflection, enhancing their overall experience while traveling through beautiful landscapes.
