Clear Glass Corridors and Flexible Spaces in a Forest-Adjacent Residence

Project in-detail

Elevated views and clear glass corridors characterize a residence that blends flexible living spaces with the natural environment, creating a harmonious setting for families.
5 key facts about this project
01
Elevated levels provide panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
02
The design incorporates clear glass corridors for natural light and connectivity.
03
Flexible living spaces adapt to various family configurations.
04
A private rooftop terrace enhances recreational opportunities.
05
The workshop is strategically located near the lake for inspiration.

The design is situated in a landscape that features both forest and lake elements. It serves as a residential area and focuses on flexibility to cater to different family sizes through various bedroom setups. The concept centers on blending living spaces with nature, encouraging interaction among residents while maintaining a sense of privacy.

Residential Configuration

The layout consists of modular arrangements, allowing families to occupy either one or three bedrooms, along with an additional guest room. This approach provides an accommodating solution for diverse living arrangements. The design promotes easy movement between private areas and communal spaces, enhancing overall usability.

Ground Floor Dynamics

On the ground floor, a main entrance leads to key residential spaces, which include two bedrooms and a living room. These areas are designed to connect directly with the surrounding forest. This thoughtful design blurs the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, fostering an inviting atmosphere. The connection to nature aims to create a peaceful environment for residents.

Vertical Arrangement

The design's verticality is evident on the second and third floors. The second floor accommodates a secondary bedroom, while the master bedroom on the third floor is positioned to take advantage of expansive views. By placing the master bedroom higher up, the design ensures more privacy and emphasizes the relationship between the home and its natural surroundings.

Materiality and Features

A clear glass corridor serves as the main pathway within the building, allowing natural light to fill the interiors. This transparency contributes to a sense of openness, helping residents stay connected to the environment outside. Additionally, the private rooftop terrace acts as a contemplative space, inviting occupants to experience their surroundings from a greater height. This integration of outdoor areas contributes to the overall living experience.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.
