The SHIZUKA project, located in Vale de Moses, presents an architectural approach that emphasizes a respectful relationship with its natural surroundings. The design comprises a series of sleeping pods, intended as a peaceful retreat. By prioritizing minimal intervention in the landscape, the concept reflects a commitment to harmony with nature, creating spaces for relaxation and reflection.

Architecture Concept

The design philosophy centers on creating a gentle presence in the environment. The sleeping pods stand on steel platforms supported by foundation pillars, which adapt to the natural contour of the land. This method ensures stability while maintaining the existing terrain and allowing the landscape to remain undisturbed. The result is a space that promotes tranquility, providing a refuge that blends into its backdrop.

Materiality

Material selection is integral to the design. The pods are clad in black wood, chosen for its ability to harmonize with the setting. The wood is treated using techniques like Shou Sugi Ban, which strengthens it and helps protect against decay and pests. This approach not only enhances the aesthetics but also aligns with the project’s sustainable objectives, reducing the need for artificial treatments.

Interior Spaces

The interiors are designed to foster a calm atmosphere. Arrangements are open, facilitating movement and interaction with the environment. Foldable glass walls allow for a connection to the outside, making it easy to enjoy views of the landscape. This design choice emphasizes the importance of nature as part of the living experience, inviting residents to appreciate the surrounding beauty.

Spatial Organization

A grid system of 300x300 mm governs the layout of the pods. This organization helps to maximize space while keeping a sense of openness. The configuration also includes built-in furniture, such as integrated shelf systems, which serve both practical and aesthetic functions. Each element is thoughtfully placed to ensure ease of use and comfort.

The design culminates in a careful balance between architecture and nature, allowing residents to immerse themselves in the peaceful atmosphere of Vale de Moses.
