5 key facts about this project
The project surrounding the Creative Block and the Mango Vinyl Hub in Cesis integrates modern design with the city’s historical elements. The design aims to create a lively community space that enhances accessibility and fosters interaction among visitors. By combining a variety of functions, the goal is to establish a cultural hub that serves both residents and tourists.
Creative Block
The Creative Block serves as a multi-functional complex that extends the original medieval grid of Cesis. It incorporates existing streets into its overall design, allowing for a natural flow that promotes walking and exploration. At the heart of the Creative Block is a Cultural and Wellness Center featuring a green inner courtyard, which encourages social interaction. The space includes coworking areas, offices, a Dance Hall, restaurants, and a Performing Arts complex, as well as a Youth Art & Recreation Centre that offers workshops and exhibitions to engage the public.
Mango Vinyl Hub
The Mango Vinyl Hub is a central cultural space focused on the production and appreciation of vinyl records. Its design includes a brick facade and tall, narrow windows that align with the architectural style common in Cesis. This choice of design ties the new building to its historical surroundings, contributing to the overall aesthetic cohesion within the urban landscape.
Functional Layout
On the ground floor, the layout of the Mango Vinyl Hub divides various functions effectively. The Exposition Area, Vinyl Cafe, and coworking spaces are positioned to allow for practical usage and encourage interaction. This arrangement facilitates easy access to exhibitions within the nearby creative park and the inner street, enriching the visitor experience. Moving up to the first floor, the space includes coworking areas, meeting rooms, and event spaces, all accompanied by a kitchen. This layout promotes collaboration and offers a comfortable environment for creative work.
Production Facilities
The top level houses the Vinyl Factory, which includes key facilities like the vinyl press room, machine room, packing room, breakroom, and offices. The design respects traditional factory profiles, ensuring ample natural light while remaining open to the public. This arrangement not only serves functional needs but also invites visitors to interact with the production process, fostering a sense of involvement in the creative aspect of the space.
The integration of diverse functions respects Cesis's historical context, culminating in a design that encourages engagement. A key feature of the project is the green inner courtyard, acting as a lively focal point for social activities that connects both indoor and outdoor environments.
