Reza Aliabadi and Arman Ghafouri - Azar from Canada

RZLBD is an award-winning boutique architectural practice based in Toronto founded by the architect Reza Aliabadi in 2010; whose work extends to designing buildings & objects, curating installations & expositions, and publishing a zine called rzlbdPOST. The practice is not just an ordinary operation that serves, rather like a positive virus, it contributes, communicates, challenges, and adapts itself to the project and its context. Currently we are working on a handful of new residential projects, a boutique community centre, restoring a heritage designated building, and designing a set of custum furniture for a former client.

WHAT DOES ARCHITECTURE MEAN TO YOU AND WHAT IS THE ROLE OF AN ARCHITECT IN YOUR SOCIETY?

"Architecture is all about, how to treat the emptiness, to respect the space not to fill it up,” Reza Aliabadi.

WHY DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN ARCHITECTURE VISION COMPETITIONS?

Currently, all of our ongoing projects are in Canada and to be specific in the Greater Toronto area; so we are trying to explore new contexts.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO INDIVIDUALS WHO STRUGGLE TO DECIDE WHETHER IT WOULD BE BENEFICIAL FOR THEM TO PARTICIPATE IN ARCHITECTURE VISION COMPETITIONS?
