Honorable mention winners from Spain

We are students from the ETSAM(Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid ), Polytechnic University of Madrid, in our fifth year. Wang is currently studying, and Gao is working at an famous architectural firm TAO(Trace Architect Office).

Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance, what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where the company/ individuals have been involved?

We've worked on projects of various sizes. In terms of scale, this project is the smallest one . The most recent project Gao has participated in is a national museum and it has a scale of nearly 60,000 square meters, so compared to this competition, it's like two extremes.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

Architecture for us is to solve problems of the society whether it’s personal or collective. Our wish is to improve people's lives. How to reflect on the challenge we are facing, based on that to give valuable ideas and solutions and share our perspectives with all the society is the role that we think architect now should play.

Why do you participate in architecture competitions?

We want to share and express our thoughts on architecture and design with the world, hoping that, through this, we can bring about some positive changes to society.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?

Go ahead and dare to try. We think participating in competitions allows us architects student to have our design abilities evaluated and to have our confidence built . It’s a precious opportunity to express our thoughts and get some feed back from other excellent architects too.
