We are Ryo Ishikawa and Mars Sambo - the creative duo behind Ishikawasambo. We practice in the field of architecture and interior design, with  branches in Manila, Philippines, and Tokyo, Japan since 2018.

Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where company/ individuals have been involved?

Our team has been involved in projects ranging from residential architecture, public architecture, and interior design. We have focused on interior design and public architecture in the Philippines and on residential architecture in Japan.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

We’re probably still on the lookout for its meaning and its role. As we grow as designers, we often unearth truths. Aside from a physical structure, architecture can be an opportunity to make something better than the standard, it can mean a better experience for the end-users and viewers. In a way, it can improve the quality of life.

Why do you participate in architecture vision competitions?

It’s a great opportunity to exercise our creativity!

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture vision competitions?

Pick a project you wouldn’t usually do and have fun!
