Please tell us about your company (when it was founded, where it is based, how many employees, etc) Alternatively, if you do not have a company, please give us some insights on your own professional/academia background.

I am a Design & Development Director for a London based property developer. A qualified Architect (ARB), I worked at leading UK Architectural practices for 12 years before moving client side in 2016.

Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance, what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where the company/ individuals have been Involved?

I work on a diverse range of projects including commercial, residential, hospitality and cultural buildings. Of note, I helped design and deliver Hawley Wharf, a 500,000sqft masterplan led scheme on the banks of the Regent’s Canal, London. Awards for this scheme include:

- Housing Design Awards, Winner of Winners
- New London Awards 2022, masterplans and area strategies winner
- 2022 RIBA Regional and National Awards

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

I think architecture is hugely undervalued in the UK. At its best, architecture can be an immensely positive catalyst for change.

Why do you participate in architecture competitions?

I participated in this competition because of its unusual blend of pragmatic and conceptual requirements, in a region with a rich history of climate adaptation that had the potential to positively inform the design.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?

Absolutely, give it a go. Every project is an opportunity to learn.
