Lee Ji Sung from South Korea

Please tell us about your company (when it was founded, where it is based, how many employees, etc) Alternatively, if you do not have a company, please give us some insights on your own professional/academia background.

I'm majoring in architecture. At our school, we learn about building engineering alongside design, and we apply that knowledge to our buildings.

Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance, what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where the company/ individuals have been Involved?

I worked on projects ranging from small to large-scale facilities, and I participated in Hospice Edition 4.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

I believe architecture is a bridge that has reconnected me with my lost dreams. Architecture is essential everywhere, and it's essential to various living things. Even creatures that people generally ignore have a need for space. I believe that's the role of an architect in society.

Why do you participate in architecture competitions?

Competitions are a way to prove your skills, but they also help you recognize and learn from your shortcomings. They highlight areas for improvement and provide opportunities for growth. I believe that’s how we evolve as architects and create better buildings.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture competitions?

Architecture competitions are a great opportunity to learn what you lack. There's a limit to what you can achieve in school. There's a Korean proverb that says, "A frog in a well." If you focus solely on your studies, competition at school might be beneficial, but you might not be a worthy competitor in society. I encourage you to participate, both for your future and for your present self.
