The Gigantic Pumpkin - Push & Pull project presents a compact microhome design, measuring 25 square meters, encapsulating sustainable living principles while encouraging community interaction. Designed specifically for a young couple, it features an adaptable structure that promotes engagement both inside and outside the dwelling. The design integrates elements that facilitate off-grid living, aligning with contemporary architectural trends focused on sustainability and resource efficiency.

Unique Adaptability in Design

One of the most notable attributes of this project is its innovative “Push & Pull” mechanism, which allows the structure to expand or contract based on user needs. Through a dynamic façade, the home not only changes its exterior appearance but also alters interior configurations, providing users the freedom to modify living spaces for various activities. This flexibility is essential, enabling multipurpose areas that accommodate different functions such as dining, working, and leisure within a small footprint.

The architectural concept is also embodied in the “Diced Pumpkin” configurations, which facilitate diverse arrangements for furniture and space usage. This approach optimally utilizes space while maintaining a strong sense of community by encouraging interaction within the outdoor zones integrated into the overall design. Furthermore, the home employs manual adjustments to create these space transitions without relying on electrical systems, remaining consistent with its sustainable ethos.

Materials and Structural Innovations

The material selection for the Gigantic Pumpkin project reinforces its sustainable agenda. Key materials used include Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) for structural integrity, Quadcore LEC Insulated Wall Panels for energy efficiency, and recycled plastic flooring to promote circular economy practices. Each material is chosen not only for its performance but also for its environmental impact, making a purposeful statement about the role of architecture in sustainable living.

Additional features incorporate a Solatube Tubular Skylight for natural illumination, ensuring energy efficiency throughout the day while reducing reliance on artificial lighting. Likewise, an embedded acoustic ceiling tile contributes to sound insulation, enhancing the comfort of living spaces in this compact design.

Overall, the architectural strategies employed in this project advocate for an environmentally responsible lifestyle while meeting the needs of a modern living context.

For those interested in exploring this architectural design further, including detailed architectural plans, architectural sections, and architectural ideas, a presentation of the project is available for review. Engaging with these elements will provide deeper insights into the unique design approaches and functional aspects of the Gigantic Pumpkin - Push & Pull project.
