Precollinear Park in Torino, Italy, features a public exhibition pavilion integrated within a linear park. It serves as a gathering space for the community, promoting interaction while highlighting wood as its primary building material. The design focuses on creating a modular experience, guiding visitors through a sequence of interconnected spaces that reveal exhibitions and engage the user’s curiosity.

Design and Context

The pavilion sits on a bridge within the park, providing open views and connecting the structure to the water below. It acts not just as a physical structure but also as a focal point for public activity. The elongated layout takes advantage of the park’s dimensions, allowing for different experiences to unfold as visitors move through the space.

Spatial Organization

The interior of the pavilion features a series of supports and an open central area that enable the display of panels and objects. Visitors can engage with the exhibits while enjoying views of the river and surrounding hills. A stairway leads users inward, enhancing visibility of the exhibition core. This setup allows for easy observation of performances and presentations while ensuring comfort for all users.

Social Interaction

Two circular rooms within the pavilion define the beginning and end of the visitor experience. These spaces are designed to host displays and provide panoramic seating for those who wish to reflect on the exhibitions. A strong axial cut draws visitors into the exhibition flow, allowing access from multiple directions. The layout encourages social interaction, blending indoor exhibits with outdoor views and creating a communal atmosphere in the park.

Functional Versatility

In addition to exhibitions, the pavilion serves multiple functions. It incorporates educational panels and scale models that illustrate the history of construction techniques. A dedicated stage area can accommodate conferences and performances, adding depth to its use. The design promotes clarity and maintains the integrity of its various functions while ensuring that each element works together harmoniously.

Seating areas throughout offer visitors a chance to relax and take in the surroundings, marrying the experience of learning with moments of contemplation in the natural park setting.
