The architectural project titled “Stacked - Inviting the Landscape” is situated in the Aknīste district of Latvia, close to the former Parish House of Suāja. This design aims to create a vibrant gathering space for a summer festival amid a forest setting, fostering activities centered around food, music, and community interaction. This project is positioned to enhance cultural engagement while maintaining a harmonious relationship with the surrounding natural environment.

The primary function of the project is to serve as a multifunctional venue that accommodates various vendors and activities during the festival. The design emphasizes an open courtyard as the central element, allowing for both community gathering and interaction between festival-goers and vendors. The layout facilitates movement throughout the space while encouraging socialization and connection to the natural landscape.

The architectural structure employs a stacked construction technique that features modular design elements. This strategy provides adaptability, enabling the configuration of different vendor spaces and communal areas suited for various events. Additionally, the overall design lends itself to quick assembly and disassembly, aligning with the festival's temporary nature.

A notable aspect of the project is its integration of natural materials, specifically locally sourced wood and plywood. These materials not only support sustainability but also emphasize the regional identity of the area. The exposed wood beams and paneling add warmth to the space, fostering an inviting atmosphere. Simple framing methods create lightweight divisions between different vendor areas, further enhancing the flexible design approach.

The project's unique design stems from its strong connection to the surrounding environment. By strategically positioning the structure within the forest, it blurs the boundaries between built and natural spaces. This integration encourages visitors to engage with both the architecture and the landscape, creating a cohesive experience during the festival. Furthermore, the choice of gravel for pathways complements the rural setting, facilitating pedestrian flow while maintaining the aesthetic relationship with nature.

The courtyard serves as the heart of the project, fostering community engagement through shared seating areas and interaction zones. This versatile design enables diverse activities to occur simultaneously while promoting a sense of belonging among visitors. The architectural layout and materiality create an environment that is not only functional but also enhances the overall festival experience.
