The design near Kemeri bog embodies a careful balance between movement and stillness, reflecting its unique natural setting. The project focuses on user experience, creating spaces that encourage interaction and provide areas for quiet reflection. This approach aims to connect the built environment with its surroundings, enhancing the overall experience for visitors.

Central Hub

At the center of the design is the "plate," a large open area that serves as the main gathering space. This area allows for easy movement between the various zones, including the park and green spaces, while also offering spots for resting and relaxing. The plate invites social interaction, making it a lively space that enhances the experience of everyone who visits.

Building Composition

Three distinct building volumes rise above the plate, each differing in size and orientation. The two main structures include a park reception and a restaurant-bar, both positioned to overlook the plate. This arrangement fosters a connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, encouraging users to move freely and engage with both the buildings and their natural surroundings.

Spatial Organization

The design incorporates a services block that faces the northern green area meant for camping. This separation maintains a clear distinction between public and private spaces. A prominent feature of the design is a 3.5-meter-high wall that acts as a guide, directing visitors from the parking area to the park entrance. This wall not only helps with navigation but also adds to the overall clarity of the site layout.

Connection to Nature

Green planted areas are integrated throughout the design, enhancing the connection with the natural environment. This strategy improves the visual appeal of the site while also supporting ecological sustainability. The choice to use wood as a primary material reinforces the ties to the landscape, offering a warm touch that complements the setting.

A children’s play area is also included, featuring climbing structures, slides, and steps. This space promotes physical activity and imaginative play, adding further value to the experience for families and young visitors. It highlights a commitment to inclusivity, encouraging all ages to engage with the environment and each other.

Competition organisers

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.

Key dates for MICROHOME 10 include the closing date for registration on 25 September 2025, the submission deadline on 29 October 2025 (11:59 p.m. London time), and the announcement of winners on 9 December 2025. These milestones ensure participants have clear timelines to develop and present their concepts, with early registration discounts available to support students and emerging designers worldwide.
