Wood Slats and Accessible Ramps Creating an Engaging Journey Through Nature

Project in-detail

Horizontal wood slats frame a series of viewing platforms connected by accessible ramps, creating an engaging journey into the surrounding wilderness for visitors to observe and connect with nature.
5 key facts about this project
01
Horizontal orientation enhances engagement with the landscape.
02
Vertical wood slats create dynamic visual experiences as visitors move.
03
Multiple viewing platforms cater to diverse observation preferences.
04
Accessible ramps ensure inclusivity for all visitors.
05
Landings invite visitors to connect deeply with nature.

The design concept "TOWER // JOURNEY" offers a fresh take on the traditional tower, set within a landscape that encourages interaction with nature. By positioning the tower horizontally, the design creates an engaging experience for visitors. Rather than simply providing a view from the top, it invites exploration and observation from various levels. This approach fosters a connection to the surrounding environment, allowing for different perspectives and experiences.

Accessibility

Accessibility is a key focus in the design. Ramps are included to enable movement throughout the space, ensuring all visitors can easily navigate the tower. This thoughtful inclusion meets modern standards for accessibility. It invites a wider range of individuals to enjoy the structure and its surroundings, promoting inclusivity and engagement with the environment.

Visual Dynamics

Vertical wood slats create interesting visual effects as people move through the tower. The spacing of these slats varies, offering a mix of openness and privacy. This design choice helps to frame views of the natural area. Visitors can take in the beauty of the landscape while also feeling a sense of intimacy within the space. It enhances the overall sensory experience, encouraging deeper engagement with the environment.

Material Considerations

The project incorporates wood decking and structural beams, reflecting a focus on sustainability and durability. The use of 50x50 wood framing adds strength to the design while fitting well with the natural setting. Additional elements like lag screws and a bracing frame support the observation platforms, ensuring stability and resilience.

Design Experience

The layout of "TOWER // JOURNEY" promotes movement and exploration. Landings are thoughtfully placed to provide views of the surrounding wilderness, enhancing the experience for visitors. Each level encourages guests to engage with the landscape, emphasizing the journey taken within the tower. The design details work together to strengthen the connection between people and nature.
