Yug Yoga Shala is located in the Valley of Moses and designed to enhance the practice of yoga by connecting deeply with nature. The overall concept aims to create harmony between mind, body, and spirit. Guided by the principle of "AHIMSA," or non-violence, the design prioritizes sustainability and reflects a commitment to environmentally friendly building practices.

Principles of Yoga in Spatial Design

The layout of Yug Yoga Shala represents the eightfold path of yoga from Patanjali's "Yoga Sutras." Each section of the facility corresponds with these principles. The entrance path, symbolizing YAMA, consists of irregular stones that encourage practitioners to reflect as they walk through the forest of local conifer trees. This approach fosters a sense of awareness and readiness for the practice ahead.

The showers and bathrooms embody NIYAMA, focusing on personal care and cleanliness. These spaces create an intimate atmosphere that prepares individuals for their yoga sessions. They serve not just as functional areas but as environments that promote a more mindful approach to self-care.

Harmonizing with Nature

The main yoga hall, designed for ASANAS, features generous openings that invite natural light and capture views of the surrounding landscape. This design choice helps bridge the gap between the interior space and nature, supporting an enriched yoga experience. Practitioners are encouraged to draw inspiration from the outside world during their sessions, fostering peace and tranquility.

Sensory Engagement and Reflection

An outdoor balcony represents PRANAYAMA, providing an area for breath control practices while engaging with fresh air. Users can connect with the outdoors, enhancing their yoga practice. Further along, a trail leads to a floating plateau framed by a water mirror, which encourages reflection and embodies PRATYAHARA. This serene area allows individuals to step back from the bustle of daily life, creating space for inner contemplation.

The altar at the heart of the space signifies SAMADHI, representing the culmination of the yoga journey. It invites practitioners to connect with spiritual aspects of their practice, serving as a focal point for inspiration drawn from traditional yoga teachings.

Throughout Yug Yoga Shala, materials like stone and clay are utilized to strengthen the bond between the structure and its natural environment. This choice of materials emphasizes sustainability and contributes to the overall aesthetic, creating a tranquil atmosphere that fosters connection and mindfulness. The design serves as a backdrop for personal growth, encouraging deep engagement with both the practice of yoga and the beauty of nature surrounding it.
