Vine Growth Among Stacked Fieldstone in a Tasting Room

Project in-detail

A large sliding glass wall opens the tasting room to the vineyard, while the stacked fieldstone exterior and wooden structural elements reflect the surrounding agricultural heritage.
5 key facts about this project
01
The design features a large sliding glass wall that connects the interior with vineyard views.
02
A stacked fieldstone veneer is used for both interior and exterior walls, reflecting local agricultural heritage.
03
The roof structure mimics the form of wild vine growth, enhancing the sense of place.
04
Trellises on the outdoor deck encourage vine growth, integrating nature with the tasting experience.
05
Bathrooms and mechanical rooms are discreetly hidden behind a wine rack wall to maintain aesthetics.

The tasting room is located within a picturesque vineyard, designed to promote a connection with the surrounding landscape. The design emphasizes an engaging experience for visitors, allowing them to appreciate both the architecture and the natural elements. The space serves a functional purpose for wine tasting while creating a strong visual link to the vines that produce the wine.

ARCHITECTURAL FORM

The building features a simple gable shape, mirroring traditional farm structures while integrating modern design aspects that increase usability. A prominent sliding glass wall dominates one side, providing clear views of the vineyard and letting in ample natural light. This design enhances the visual connection between the inside of the tasting room and the outdoors, showcasing the beauty of the landscape.

INTERIOR LAYOUT

Inside, the layout is designed for social interaction, with tables arranged centrally to encourage conversation among guests. Essential facilities, such as bathrooms and storage spaces, are tucked away behind a wine rack wall. This thoughtful arrangement keeps the focus on the tasting experience, allowing visitors to enjoy their time without distractions.

MATERIALITY

The project uses a stacked fieldstone veneer for both the interior and exterior walls. This choice reflects the vineyard's agricultural context and aligns visually with the nearby barn where wine barrels are kept. The natural texture and colors of the stone create a rustic feel that complements the surrounding landscape and enhances the building's character.

OUTDOOR CONNECTION

An outdoor deck extends from the tasting room, built with a wood truss framework. This deck includes trellises for shade and to support additional vine growth, enriching the sensory experience. The outdoor area provides a direct connection to the vineyard, allowing guests to enjoy the fresh air while tasting the wines produced nearby.

The wooden structure supporting the roof resembles the growth patterns of vines, reinforcing the idea of being among the plants. Each detail in the design works together to celebrate the vineyard's environment.
