The Urban Treehouse project is a study in green architecture within busy urban environments. Located in the narrow alleyways of a city, it aims to bring new life to these neglected spaces while focusing on sustainability. The design combines elements of nature and architecture to create a living space that promotes community and privacy.

Concept and Design Intent

The design takes inspiration from the idea of a treehouse, with a focus on height and connection to the outdoors. It harmonizes built structures with natural elements to encourage a sustainable way of living. Climbing plants are a key feature, offering both privacy and improved air circulation. This connection to nature enhances the experience of living in a city.

Spatial Configuration

The layout of the Urban Treehouse is intentional, with spaces designed for both shared and private use. A prominent staircase core is designed to enhance privacy and serves as an important feature of the space. The organization of the layout allows for different areas to be used effectively throughout the day. The central courtyard is a significant aspect, providing natural light and inviting airflow, fostering social connections among residents.

Materiality and Integration

The exterior features a unique approach to cladding, where climbing vines are supported by a cable system. This design choice integrates the building with its surroundings. It not only beautifies the structure but also allows for a living environment that thrives over time. With living walls, the building becomes a part of the ecosystem.

Multifunctional Spaces

Inside, the space is versatile, with areas that serve more than one purpose. The communal area can be used for both dining and sleeping, making it practical for urban living. Swinging doors offer options for privacy and easy access. The cleverly designed storage under the deck steps ensures that the home remains functional while maintaining a clean look.

At its center, the courtyard acts as more than just an outdoor space. It serves as a source of light and air, linking indoor and outdoor life. This connection enriches the experience of living in an urban environment, where nature and architecture go hand in hand.
