The yoga pavilion in Vale of Moses is designed to create a deep connection with its natural surroundings. Positioned among trees and open spaces, it serves as a calm area for yoga practice, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in nature. The concept is built around blending the structure with the environment, making it a place where architecture and landscape coexist.

Structure and Form

The pavilion features a limited footprint and a rising vertical form. This reduces its impact on the natural layout of the land and emphasizes its relationship with the surrounding forest. By using isolated points and a mix of surfaces, the design creates interesting spaces that connect people to nature. The pavilion rises gently from the ground, allowing visitors to feel like they are part of their environment.

Sustainability

Sustainability is an important focus in the design. The roof is built with slopes and gutters that collect rainwater, which is then directed to the bathrooms for reuse. This system encourages responsible water use and minimizes waste. Additionally, energy-generating solar panels are included to harness sunlight, further supporting eco-friendly practices within the building.

Materiality

The choice of materials enhances the building's bond with the landscape. Wood beams create a welcoming atmosphere that complements the greenery around. Tempered and anti-glare glass is used to let in natural light, while also ensuring comfort for those inside. These materials contribute to the ambiance in The Shala, the spacious area dedicated to yoga, creating a direct link between the interior and the tranquility outside.

Light and Comfort

Natural light significantly shapes the environment within the pavilion. Carefully placed screens filter sunlight, providing a calm space for yoga practice. The angle of these panels is designed to keep the interior cool during hot summer days. Protective wooden screens around the pavilion help shield users from harsh weather while allowing them to remain connected to the peaceful setting.

The architecture encourages a connection to the surrounding trees, enhancing the visitor’s experience of nature. The careful design allows for an engaging atmosphere, emphasizing the simplicity of practicing yoga amid the natural beauty of Vale of Moses.

The Next House: USA — A Global Call to Reimagine the American Suburb

`
Competition organisers

Buildner is launching The Next House: USA, a global architecture competition that challenges architects, designers, and thinkers to reimagine the American suburban home for the 21st century. For decades, the suburban house has symbolized comfort and stability, but today it often reflects excess, isolation, and environmental strain. This competition asks: how can the American home evolve to address climate urgency, economic pressures, and shifting social values?

Participants are tasked with designing a prototype home of no more than 1,500 sq ft (≈140 m²) for a household of two adults and one child. The design should be compact yet generous, adaptable, sustainable, affordable, and replicable across diverse U.S. contexts. More than a design exercise, the competition aims to spark a conversation about how homes can support healthier, smarter, and more connected communities.

The total prize fund is $20,000 USD. The final registration deadline is May 20, 2026, and winners will be announced on September 22, 2026. The Next House: USA invites architects, students, and visionaries worldwide to redefine what the American home means today—and what it should mean tomorrow.
