5 key facts about this project
The Al Wathba nature reserve is a unique place known for its rich biodiversity and significance as a stop for many migrating birds, including great flamingos. The design focuses on enhancing the visitor experience while promoting conservation of the natural environment. By combining built structures with the landscape, the project aims to create spaces that allow people to connect with nature.
Integration with Nature
The design emphasizes a strong connection between the constructed elements and the surrounding environment. Two observation routes have been introduced to facilitate exploration of local plant and animal life. Each route includes features that guide visitors and draw their attention to different aspects of the landscape, enhancing the overall experience.
Structures and Viewing Points
Built structures are carefully placed to reduce impact on the environment. Vertical enclosures are designed to hide the approach, allowing visitors to observe wildlife without disturbing it. The viewing points are positioned thoughtfully, providing expansive views that encourage reflection and a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
Material and Assembly
The structure known as the "Pointer" is built using prefabricated materials, which allows for a quicker assembly and less disruption to the site. Prefabricated concrete forms the porch and support pillars, while laminated wood is used for the roofs. Steel braces add to the stability of the overall design. A wooden framework with mirrors and cane panels reflects the environment, adding visual interest and blending the structure into its setting.
The observation areas extend into the natural surroundings, inviting visitors to enjoy the sights and sounds without being seen. This careful consideration of the design enhances the experience of being in the reserve while ensuring the preservation of its unique wildlife.
