The architectural design project "HOLE-LOMULOUS: HOMO SAPIEN AND HOLE" explores the complexities of human existence through a carefully designed space. Set against the backdrop of current societal issues, the pavilion serves as both a cultural and social center. Its aim is to encourage community interaction and inclusivity. The overall design concept blends elements from nature and history, creating a conversation between humanity's past and its potential future.

Spatial Arrangement

The layout features a rectangular shape that provides a foundation for the design. Walls are creatively shaped into circular forms, providing a cave-like feeling that enhances the connection to the natural environment. This organic approach encourages flexibility, crafting an inviting atmosphere that is ideal for human interaction and cultural activities.

Circulation System

An essential aspect of the design is the underground circulation system. Pathways are designed to facilitate smooth movement throughout the pavilion. This thoughtful configuration emphasizes accessibility. It allows individuals to easily transition between different areas, improving the overall experience within the space.

Contextual Considerations

The pavilion addresses important global issues, particularly the difficulties faced by refugees. By referencing the Kobe Refugee Camp in Ethiopia, Africa, it acknowledges the various reasons for migration. This focus reinforces the building’s role as both a temporary shelter and a space for social gathering.

Human Narrative

"Hole-Lomulous" reflects on the journey of humanity, considering the significant milestones that have influenced human development over 200,000 years. This exploration highlights the design's intent to go beyond mere physical space. It aims to serve as a medium for expressing human history, showcasing the resourcefulness and endurance of people.

The design integrates natural forms into its structure. This creates an environment that blends with its surroundings while promoting meaningful interactions. Thoughtful elements like circulation pathways and the organic shapes contribute to a well-rounded architectural expression that fulfills its purpose.
