The Vogafjós Farm + Resort Thermal Springs Guesthouse is located in the unique landscape of Iceland. It serves as a retreat where visitors can relax and recharge while staying connected to nature. Transparent Facade

The north facade of the building features expansive glass, allowing guests to enjoy unobstructed views of the aurora borealis. This choice enhances the relationship between the interior and the breathtaking natural light displays, creating a welcoming atmosphere. With this level of transparency, the design promotes an experience that draws guests into the beauty of the Icelandic night sky.

Landscape Integration

The building is partly set below ground, which helps it blend into the land and improves its insulating properties. This feature plays a key role in ensuring energy efficiency while minimizing the visual impact of the structure on its surroundings. By embedding the building within the landscape, it aligns with the local environment, making it feel like a natural extension of the land.

Functional Spaces

The layout includes various functional areas such as a common room, patio, bedrooms, and personal wellness spaces with saunas and hot tubs. The choice of materials reflects a commitment to the local context. The construction uses 25 mm Icelandic birch veneer covered with a waterproofing membrane. Cross-laminated timber frames provide structural support, while triple-glazed windows ensure energy efficiency. Sheep's wool insulation further enhances the building's thermal performance, complemented by heated flooring and sturdy timber pile foundations for added comfort.
