With a triangular timber framework inspired by aquatic plant structures, the design offers modular flexibility that adapts to evolving user needs for a dynamic office environment.
5 key facts about this project
01
Triangular geometry draws inspiration from aquatic plant structures, enhancing stability.
02
Modular design allows for customizable office configurations to meet changing user needs.
03
Centralized core accommodates vertical circulation and essential services for efficient access.
04
Phased construction enables incremental development without compromising the building's integrity.
05
Timber is the primary structural element, promoting sustainability in high-rise design.

The One Zero - Twin Timber Towers is located in Gift City, Gandhinagar. The setting is part of an emerging business district focused on innovation and modern development. Aimed at creating a functional workspace, the design embraces timber as its primary building material. This choice reflects a growing interest in sustainability while also addressing the need for flexibility in urban spaces.

Structural Innovation
- The building features a triangular design influenced by the shape of an aquatic plant stem. This geometry provides stability and recalls natural forms. By using timber, the structure benefits from qualities such as modularity, enabling efficient construction. The approach aims to meet the practical demands of urban life while staying grounded in ecological values.

Adaptive Spatial Configuration
- Inside the Twin Timber Towers, each floor is designed to have unique configurations tailored to different functions. The modular concept allows various activity spaces to be integrated into larger areas, encouraging adaptability. Users can modify spaces as needed, fostering a work environment that supports collaboration and innovation.

Centralized Core Strategy
- A central core supports the towers, housing vertical circulation and necessary services. This layout simplifies movement throughout the building, providing easy access to different levels. The core's position enhances convenience, ensuring that users can navigate the space effectively, which contributes to the overall functionality of the design.

Incremental Construction Approach
- The project adopts a phased construction strategy, permitting gradual development based on user demands. By allowing for incremental changes, the structure can adapt over time without losing its integrity. This flexibility is essential in urban settings where needs might shift quickly.

The design effectively balances sustainability with practical function. It emphasizes the possibilities of timber in high-rise buildings, allowing the structure to respond to both current needs and future changes while maintaining a respectful relationship with its surroundings.

`
Competition organisers

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.

Key dates for MICROHOME 10 include the closing date for registration on 25 September 2025, the submission deadline on 29 October 2025 (11:59 p.m. London time), and the announcement of winners on 9 December 2025. These milestones ensure participants have clear timelines to develop and present their concepts, with early registration discounts available to support students and emerging designers worldwide.
