The Euclid Hospice Home, located within the Cleveland campus, provides a caring environment for those in need of end-of-life support. Its design centers around a triangular form that conveys stability and permanence, which is essential for both patients and families. This architectural approach acknowledges the emotional challenges faced in such settings and creates a space that feels ordered and comforting.

Spatial Organization

The layout of the hospice is carefully developed to distinguish between public, semi-public, and private areas. This design facilitates functionality and accessibility, making it easy for visitors to navigate the space. Important areas include a lobby, common area, kitchen/dining space, therapy room, nurse’s room, chapel, and gathering room. Each of these spaces is tailored to meet the diverse needs of patients and their families, promoting both care and connection.

Community Focus

An important feature of the design is a central kitchen and dining area. This space encourages shared meals and fosters interactions among patients, families, and staff. By highlighting communal activities, the hospice creates a supportive environment that is often vital during difficult times. Additional therapy and reflection areas are integrated into the design, ensuring that personal space is available while still promoting social connections when desired.

Connection to Nature

Green spaces surround the building and play a vital role in the overall design. These outdoor areas allow patients to experience nature, which can enhance relaxation and provide a sense of calm. The inclusion of natural elements highlights their significance in improving the overall experience of patients, offering an escape for quiet reflection and peace.

Circulation and Flow

The design maintains a clear organization that aids circulation throughout the hospice. The layout is intuitive, helping to reduce stress for patients and their families. Areas are functionally connected, allowing for easy movement as individuals move between different spaces. This attention to circulation supports accessibility, enhancing the overall security felt within the hospice environment.

The Euclid Hospice Home features a triangular design that not only serves a functional purpose but also helps create a sense of order and tranquility—an essential detail for facilitating a healing atmosphere.
