The Cabin in the Clearing is located in a rural area of Latvia, surrounded by natural landscapes. It serves as a space for visitors to pause and connect with their surroundings while enjoying the tranquility of the setting. The design combines traditional elements with modern features, creating a structure that provides comfort and encourages reflection. The careful placement of the cabin enhances the experience of arriving and spending time in nature.

**Architectural Concept**

The design features an entrance that faces true north, acting as a compass for visitors. This orientation helps guests find their way and introduces them to the natural environment. The cabin is positioned at an angle to the road, which creates a transition from the outside world to a peaceful interior. This thoughtful placement invites individuals to prepare for a unique experience as they approach the building.

**Spatial Arrangement**

Inside, the cabin promotes exploration through a vertical circulation path. Visitors can move upward along a spiral layout, encountering different views with each step. The top floor includes a small area with a translucent roof, which warms the space and brings in natural light. This allows for an open atmosphere where guests can feel connected to the environment around them.

**Accessibility and Functionality**

Making the cabin accessible to all visitors is a key aspect of its design. A lift and ramp provide easy access to the first floor. Staggered stairs guide guests upward and offer resting spots for enjoying the views. Spotlights positioned along the translucent railings enhance the cabin's inviting character at night, creating a warm and welcoming glow.

**Structural Integrity and Materials**

The cabin is built on a steel frame, which provides support while allowing for a simple yet appealing form. This choice aligns with designs used in firewatch towers, ensuring safety and reliability. Wooden beams serve as part of the substructure, linking the steel elements to create a cohesive feel. Transparent corrugated plastic sheeting is used to protect the cabin from weather conditions while allowing light to filter in, enriching the interior experience.

At its core, the design brings together light and space, creating a sense of refuge within the cabin's framework. Every detail is thoughtfully designed to resonate with the beauty of the surrounding landscape, making it a fitting retreat for those seeking connection and solitude.
