"Evanescence" explores the notion of life’s transience through the interplay of shadow and light. Set in a versatile living environment, the design aims to create spaces that resonate with everyday experiences. It emphasizes the connection between people and their surroundings, reflecting the changing nature of memories and existence.

Spatial Segmentation

The design features a careful arrangement of large volumes broken into smaller, permeable areas. This strategy enhances the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. As users move through the building, they experience varying levels of openness and privacy. Each space serves a clear function, including a library, kitchen, and meditation cabin, all while contributing to a flow that supports both community gatherings and personal moments of solitude.

Light and Shadow

Light and shadow play essential roles in the project’s concept. Natural light interacts with surfaces, resulting in changing patterns throughout the day. These shifting shadows invite viewers to engage more deeply with their surroundings. The contrast between light and dark emphasizes themes of impermanence, encouraging occupants to reflect on their moments and experiences within their environment.

Materiality

Material choices are aligned with the project’s ideas. Fabric is used to create visual silhouettes that engage with the outside world, adding softness and movement. Translucent materials like glass and polycarbonate blend indoor and outdoor realms, allowing light to filter through. This interaction fosters a connection with nature, promoting a sense of openness and continuity in daily life.

Functionality and Flexibility

Spaces such as closets, bathrooms, working areas, and living rooms are organized to support different daily activities while balancing practical use and aesthetic appeal. This layout ensures that the space addresses a variety of needs. It facilitates both social interactions and quiet retreats, embodying the goal to encourage a deeper connection with the immediate environment.

A defining feature of the design is the incorporation of courtyards, which act as peaceful outdoor extensions to the living areas. These areas provide tranquil spots for occupants to appreciate nature and the shifting light, capturing the essence of a lifestyle enriched by fleeting moments and meaningful connections.
