5 key facts about this project
The project “EUROVELO: CAN'T STOP, WON'T STOP” develops modular resting points for cyclists along the Eurovelo network. It aims to provide shelter and essential amenities for travelers on their journey. The design focuses on offering spaces that encourage users to pause, reflect, and connect with the surrounding landscape. Each facility is tailored to meet the needs of cyclists, ensuring an accessible and user-friendly experience.
Modular Assembly
The design uses a prefabricated wood panel system complemented by metal cladding. This combination allows for durability and efficient construction. The use of wood keeps the structures lightweight, enabling easy transport and assembly. The metal cladding protects against weather elements, ensuring the longevity of the facilities. This modular approach offers flexibility, allowing variations based on specific site requirements and user demands.
Levels of Accommodation
There are four levels of accommodation, each designed for different lengths of stay. Level 1 provides basic shelter for quick stops, allowing cyclists to rest and secure their bikes. Level 2 includes restroom facilities, encouraging longer stays. Level 3 offers protection during adverse weather conditions as a place to take shelter without restroom access. Finally, Level 4 provides full overnight accommodations with sleeping arrangements and storage options, catering to travelers who need more comprehensive facilities.
Sustainability and Social Spaces
Sustainability plays a key role, with solar panels used for lighting and heating. This reflects an awareness of environmental impacts. Community interaction is also considered, with fire pits included in all units to promote socializing. These elements encourage a sense of belonging among travelers, turning a simple rest stop into a gathering space.
Geographic Context
Positioned along important cycling routes, the project spans several cities including Basel, Ulm, Besançon, Regensburg, and Budapest. This diverse geographical reach highlights the necessity for adequate facilities to support a wide range of cyclists. It also connects users to the rich landscapes and cultures found in each location, enhancing their overall experience.
The facilities are designed not just for comfort but also to facilitate moments of connection with nature, inviting travelers to step outside their daily routines and engage with the environments they explore.
