Villa VOON is a residential architectural project situated amidst the scenic landscape of Portugal, emphasizing a strong connection with nature. The design serves as a retreat, integrating seamlessly with its environment while promoting relaxation and sustainability. The primary material used is wood, sourced responsibly to minimize environmental impact, showcasing a commitment to ecological architecture.

Design and Spatial Organization

The project expresses a design philosophy focused on harmony between architecture and the natural setting. The layout includes open communal spaces that encourage social interaction, along with discrete guest houses that provide privacy. Central to the design is the fluidity between indoor and outdoor spaces, achieved through expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that frame views of the olive groves. Distinct architectural elements, such as the rounded forms and vertical wooden slats, create an inviting façade that reflects the serene characteristics of the surrounding landscape.

Unique Approaches to Materiality and Sustainability

What sets Villa VOON apart from typical residential projects is its unique approach to material selection and construction methods. The exclusive reliance on wood not only aligns with sustainability goals but also adopts a “no screws, no glue” assembly technique. This innovative framework reduces construction waste and promotes a sustainable building practice. Additionally, the integration of terracotta in the exterior cladding ensures the structure resonates with the local environment while providing thermal benefits.

Functionality and User Experience

The functionality of the villa caters to various user needs, with spaces designed for communal activities as well as private retreats. The thoughtful organization of rooms facilitates a versatile experience, accommodating different group sizes and purposes. Natural fabrics are employed for furnishings, further enhancing comfort and aligning with the overall design ethos. The project embodies sustainable living while prioritizing user experience, creating a balanced environment that reflects contemporary architectural ideas.
