Bridging It All is a timber pavilion-bridge located in Gothenburg, Sweden, aimed at connecting nature, urban life, and public exhibition spaces. The design looks to revitalize under-used areas along the riverbank, inviting people to explore and interact. It combines elements of the historical context with the natural environment, creating a public space that encourages community engagement.

Architectural Concept

The design emphasizes the blend of the pavilion and bridge, functioning as both a structural connector and an inviting space. It encourages the idea of a river city, reintegrating the urban environment with natural landscapes. Visitors are invited to engage with the pavilion and its exhibitions, fostering a sense of community in the process.

Materiality and Structure

The project prominently features Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) as a key material, with various layers of CLT flooring providing stability and strength. Structural glulam beams enhance the framework, allowing for an efficient load distribution. These choices illustrate a focus on sustainability, aiming to balance environmental consciousness with structural reliability.

User Experience and Functionality

Bridging It All serves multiple purposes as a bridge, exhibition space, and gathering point. The design promotes easy movement, making it simple for people to navigate while enjoying views of the river. Educational opportunities and recreational activities coexist, enriching the experience for all visitors.

In its architectural detailing, the pavilion includes a series of timber ribs that create a warm atmosphere. Light filters through these features, casting changing patterns within the space. This interaction enhances the sensory experience, grounding the structure in its natural surroundings.
