Chintan is an educational and community eco hub located within the Val de Moses Yoga retreat. It embodies deep meditative thought, reflected in its name. The overall design promotes a sense of calm while encouraging interaction with the natural environment. The layout is inspired by the yoga pose Urdhva Mukha Shvanasana, which guides the orientation of the buildings. This ensures maximum sunlight exposure and enhances the connection with nature.

Design Functionality

The complex includes three primary structures: the Dressing Room Block, the Greenhouse, and the Yoga Shala. The Dressing Room Block contains a kitchenette, closet space, and a terrace on the first floor. It is oriented southward to provide expansive views of the surrounding valley. The terrace features adjustable windows that allow for better air circulation, responding to seasonal changes while ensuring ample natural light.

Integration with Nature

The Greenhouse plays a significant role, bridging the two main buildings and emphasizing the relationship between yoga and the nurturing of plants. Built with a steel framework and glass, it regulates temperature and humidity effectively, creating a serene environment for meditation amidst greenery. This thoughtful design encourages users to connect with various plant species and appreciate biodiversity.

Connection to Spirituality

Designed to be full of light and openness, the Yoga Shala fosters yoga practice in a space harmonized with the forest surroundings. Skylights in the roof allow morning light to pour in. Large west-facing windows provide stunning sunset views. This design choice enhances the overall experience, making each session a moment of tranquility.

Material Choices

The structure relies on a timber framework supported by concrete foundations. The exterior is finished with anthracite-colored sheet metal, ensuring durability while maintaining an aesthetic consistency throughout the complex. Inside, exposed wooden joists create a dynamic interaction with light, enhancing the feeling of space and contributing to a calming atmosphere that supports mindfulness.
