Framed by timber cantilevers, the design offers panoramic views through thematic rooms that invite visitors to engage with the surrounding landscape in a continuous exploration of nature.
5 key facts about this project
01
Framed views are created through the strategic orientation of each thematic room.
02
A ramp connects the gallery rooms, promoting fluid movement between spaces.
03
The design incorporates a steel frame that supports extensive cantilevers.
04
Internal lighting is provided by a continuous belt embedded in the staircase.
05
Panoramic viewing areas enhance the experience of the surrounding landscape.

The Gallery of Nature integrates with its natural surroundings, making it part of the landscape rather than apart from it. Located in a varied environment, it functions as both a gallery and an experiential pathway. Visitors can engage with their surroundings while experiencing a journey that feels continuous and connected. The design concept centers on creating spaces that not only serve a purpose but also inspire exploration and reflection.

The layout consists of four thematic rooms linked to specific elements of nature: the grassland, the farm, the woods, and the sky. Each space is designed to provide unique perspectives on the landscape, allowing visitors to appreciate the diverse qualities of their environment. A ramp leads visitors upward from the grassland, guiding them through the different rooms. As they ascend, they encounter distinct views that enrich their experience and deepen their connection to nature.

Circulation is an important consideration in the design. Platforms and stairs connect the gallery rooms, promoting a natural flow throughout the space. A lifting platform facilitates access to different elevations, enhancing the ease of movement. This organization invites exploration and ensures that the experience feels dynamic. Visitors are free to navigate through the structure as they wish, creating their own paths.

The structural approach uses a steel frame, supplemented by cables in the cantilevers for support. This method contributes a sense of lightness and openness to the design. The cantilevered sections not only offer wide views but also minimize visual blocks. Sightlines to the landscape remain clear, helping to maintain a strong connection with nature.

Lighting plays a significant role in creating atmosphere. A continuous lighting belt embedded in the staircase provides gentle illumination, fostering a welcoming environment. This internal lighting, combined with natural light, shapes the mood of the gallery, allowing it to change throughout the day. The careful attention to lighting enhances the overall experience, inviting visitors to appreciate the blend of the natural and built worlds.

`
Competition organisers

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 is an international architecture competition dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the value of unrealized architectural designs. It invites architects, designers, and students worldwide to submit visionary projects that have not yet been constructed, highlighting the power of ideas and the creativity behind the design process. By focusing on unbuilt work, the competition aims to bring forward concepts that shape the future of architecture and push the boundaries of the profession.

Participants can compete in three categories based on project scale: Small Wonders (up to 100 m²), Medium Marvels (101–999 m²), and Large Visions (over 1,000 m²). Each category winner will receive €20,000, and additional prizes include honorable mentions, student awards, and a special Best Presentation Award. Winning projects will gain significant international exposure through Buildner’s publicity campaign and a feature article on ArchDaily, providing a unique opportunity to showcase creative ideas to a global audience.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 encourages entrants to submit any type of unbuilt project, from conceptual visions to detailed designs, celebrating bold innovation without the constraints of realization. Important deadlines: registration closes on October 30, 2025; submissions are due by November 20, 2025; winners will be announced on December 17, 2025.
