Copa Dourada is located in the Vale de Moses Yoga Retreat within the Sierra de Estrela range in Portugal. The retreat serves as a space for relaxation and reflection, fostering a deep connection between guests and their natural surroundings. The design concept focuses on blending the architecture with the landscape, creating a peaceful environment for visitors to unwind.

Architecture Concept

The design of Copa Dourada emphasizes harmony with its setting. Each pod features a tiered structure that follows the natural slopes of the terrain. This choice reduces ground disturbance and allows visitors to enjoy expansive views of the valley. The layout addresses the varying needs of guests by providing both private areas and communal spaces that encourage social interaction and personal time.

Materials and Sustainability

Copa Dourada uses locally sourced materials to minimize the carbon footprint associated with construction. The project employs cork insulation from Esmoriz, structural steel bracing from Fundao, semi-transparent mesh from Braga, mountain larch wood cladding from Pedrogão Grande, and structural pine joists from Oleiros. By selecting these materials, the design supports local economies while maintaining an earthy aesthetic that aligns with the landscape.

Spatial Organization

Each pod is organized to maximize comfort and privacy. Guests enter into a welcoming area that includes a wood stove and comfortable seating, which transitions into a private sleeping space. This thoughtful arrangement balances the desire for shared experiences and individual reflection, allowing visitors to choose their level of social engagement.

Visual Aesthetics

The name 'Copa Dourada,' translating to "golden canopy," reflects the design's focus on natural beauty. The warm tones of the selected materials create a cohesive atmosphere that connects interior spaces with the outdoors. The architecture invites nature inside, offering guests a sense of being surrounded by the landscape while enjoying modern comforts.
