The Tili Wine Italy guest homes are located on a preserved plain in Italy. They reflect a strong connection to tradition while offering a modern living experience. Designed as five interlinked houses, the project embraces the Tili philosophy that has been handed down through generations. Each house operates independently, yet they are brought together under a common pitched roof. The central patio plays a key role, acting as a space where guests can gather and connect. This layout enhances natural light and airflow, creating an inviting atmosphere for interaction.

Design Objective

The design seeks to balance the need for privacy with the benefits of community. By organizing the houses around the central patio, residents can move freely while enjoying their own space. Shared areas, like the kitchen and dining room, encourage communal activities and strengthen relationships among guests. The layout is intentional, focusing on both social and individual experiences. Such a setup makes the guest homes feel warm and welcoming.

Material Choices

Two main materials are used in the construction: massive structural stone and non-transformed wood. The stone serves a significant purpose due to its ability to regulate temperature. It absorbs heat during the day and releases it at night, providing a natural cooling system in the summer. During the winter, it retains warmth. Non-transformed wood complements the stone, offering support and adding warmth to the design. This choice of materials highlights a commitment to sustainability, aligning with the practices and values of the Tili winery.

Spatial Layout

The arrangement of the guest homes is clear and functional, designed to promote easy movement. The central patio not only serves as an outdoor gathering space but also connects the interiors to the natural environment. This thoughtful layout encourages guests to engage with their surroundings. Energy efficiency is an integral aspect, with design features like strategically placed windows and overhangs that help maintain a comfortable climate year-round.

Every detail matters in this design. Subtle architectural features enhance the living experience, reminding guests of the interplay between comfort and environmental awareness. The Tili Wine guest homes invite residents to enjoy a simpler way of living while being mindful of their impact on the surrounding landscape.

Competition organisers

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 is an international architecture competition dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the value of unrealized architectural designs. It invites architects, designers, and students worldwide to submit visionary projects that have not yet been constructed, highlighting the power of ideas and the creativity behind the design process. By focusing on unbuilt work, the competition aims to bring forward concepts that shape the future of architecture and push the boundaries of the profession.
