5 key facts about this project
The Tasting Room at Monte D'Oiro Winery is an architectural addition designed to blend with its vineyard surroundings. The space serves as a place for visitors to taste wine while experiencing the landscape that produces it. The design concept highlights the journey of wine, from fresh grapes to the final product. The intention is to create a close relationship between the environment and the act of tasting.
Design Concept
The design focuses on the connection between the building and the natural world. A large roof covered with greenery creates a visual link to the landscape, integrating the winery's functions with its agricultural roots. The roof supports grape plants, allowing guests to see the earlier stages of wine production. This concept enhances the experience of tasting wine by relating it directly to the source.
Spatial Organization
The layout is created to encourage movement and interaction. Visitors enter the building and descend via ramps that connect different spaces, leading them down toward the vineyards. This descending path enhances accessibility and encourages guests to engage with the landscape. The design includes multiple terraces, providing various areas where guests can relax and sample wines, fostering a sense of community and enjoyment.
Interior Features
Inside, the Central Bar is positioned to offer views of the vineyards while also serving as a gathering spot. Nearby, the "Cabinet of Curiosities" displays a collection of wine-related items. This adds a rich context to the tasting experience. Additionally, the "Cabinet of Wine" features an organized array of bottles, making it easy for guests to explore different options. The shelving is carefully designed to allow for easy access and visual comparison, enhancing the tasting experience.
Material Details
The Tasting Room features exposed concrete floors and unitized glass walls, which work together to create a modern aesthetic. These materials allow natural light to fill the space, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. The use of glass also helps to create a strong connection to the outdoors, inviting guests to appreciate the surrounding vineyards while enjoying their wine.
The design of the Tasting Room enhances the relationship between visitors and the wine culture of the area. It provides a space that not only serves a function but also engages guests in the story of winemaking from grape to glass.
