The design focuses on creating an environment for reading that combines individual reflection with community interactions. Set in a context that invites both solitude and social engagement, the project embodies a concept of merging literature and nature. The aim is to provide a peaceful space where users can immerse themselves in books while also connecting with others. Functionality plays a crucial role, allowing this space to serve multiple needs.

Circular Form and Structure

A circular form is a central feature of the design, representing elements like the sun and moon. This shape provides a flowing space that encourages movement between inside and outside. The circular arrangement also facilitates different activities, supporting its multifunctional purpose.

Material Selection

The materials used include a tensile fabric that takes on the shape of the moon, combined with a strong steel framework. These materials create a sense of lightness and openness throughout the space. The tensile fabric allows natural light to enter while creating a cozy atmosphere, making it suitable for reading and relaxation.

Seating and User Experience

The seating is specifically designed, drawing inspiration from the shape of an open book. The main reading seat is positioned in an inverted manner, allowing for comfortable reclining. This thoughtful approach enhances the user experience by accommodating various activities, such as reading, conversing, or simply enjoying the surroundings.

Community Engagement

Modules within the design are arranged to encourage interaction among diverse age groups, fostering social connections. This thoughtful layout helps reduce congestion in popular areas, allowing visitors to explore freely and participate in activities that align with their interests. The design recognizes the role of literature in promoting knowledge and cultural exchange, making it a vital part of community life.

The blend of natural elements with the circular configuration creates an inviting atmosphere that encourages users to focus on their reading while also engaging with each other. The logo, “Rewriting the Refuge,” embodies the spirit of the space, highlighting its purpose as a haven for literature and thoughtful exploration.
