5 key facts about this project
## Overview
The Decalcomani project is situated near the Kútustaðagígar craters in Iceland, an area known for its distinctive geological features. This design integrates a boutique Beer Spa with facilities that promote leisure, health, and community interaction. The intent is to create a multifaceted environment where visitors can experience the therapeutic benefits of beer in a setting that emphasizes relaxation and engagement with nature. The approach merges modern architectural principles with traditional Icelandic building styles, ensuring cultural relevance while optimizing the user experience.
## Site Planning and Layout
The layout is characterized by a multi-layered configuration that harmonizes with the site’s natural topography. The gently sloping terrain serves as both a functional landscape and recreational space, providing opportunities for activities such as sledding and climbing. The design includes distinct zones for lounging, therapeutic treatments, and outdoor enjoyment, promoting diverse usage while maintaining an open, welcoming atmosphere. Multi-directional pathways enhance circulation, facilitating smooth transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces.
## Architectural Features and Materiality
The spatial arrangement encompasses a main lounge, bar, changing facilities, and treatment areas, all embodying a minimalist aesthetic that reflects the surrounding landscape. Inspired by traditional Icelandic turf houses, certain sections incorporate green roofs, offering natural insulation and additional recreational space. The predominant use of local timber for flooring and wall finishes fosters warmth and comfort while reducing transportation costs. Natural stone elements provide durability and tactile richness, while expansive glass walls enhance visibility and invite natural light, contributing to a serene atmosphere. Concrete components ensure structural integrity and a contemporary aesthetic throughout the facility.
