**Overview**

The Sunken Sanctuary is situated in the desert landscape of Saudi Arabia, intended as a designated space for prayer and reflection. The architectural design responds to both the environmental context and cultural significance, aiming to create an immersive experience that encourages contemplation. The approach combines elements of nature and spirituality, with a focus on reducing the visual impact on the surrounding landscape while fostering a serene atmosphere.

**Spatial Strategy**

The design incorporates a sunken layout, which not only minimizes disruption to the desert's aesthetic but also enhances the feeling of enclosure and protection. Visitors are guided through a pathway that leads from the exterior into various contemplation areas, fostering a gradual transition to a more introspective setting. The prominent vertical elements, including a central tower, serve as focal points that symbolize spiritual connection while facilitating natural ventilation through strategically placed openings.

**Material and Sustainability Considerations**

The choice of materials plays a critical role in achieving the sanctuary’s objectives. Concrete is employed for its durability, providing a stark contrast to the surrounding sand, while wooden elements contribute warmth and texture to the environment. Glass is utilized to allow natural light to penetrate the space, creating dynamic lighting effects throughout the day. Additionally, water features, such as reflection pools, enhance both the auditory and visual tranquility of the site. These design elements also prioritize sustainability, reducing reliance on mechanical cooling systems and promoting an organic relationship between the structure and its desert context.
