The project serves as a dedicated space for yoga and meditation, designed to be in harmony with the natural environment. It is built on the concept from the Sanskrit word 'yuj,' which means 'to unite.' The design emphasizes connecting individual consciousness with the universal. The goal here is to create an environment that supports both personal growth and community interaction.

Conceptual Framework

The design draws upon the metaphor of a tree, as described by B.K.S. Iyengar, where each element contributes to the whole. This idea shapes the layout and aesthetic choices, allowing users to see their own development within a larger context. The architecture is intended to foster a feeling of connection to nature and to each other.

Sensory Engagement

A crucial aspect of the design is the focus on sensory experiences. Visitors can engage their senses fully within this space. The scent of flowers fills the air, creating a pleasant olfactory experience. Views of the landscape provide visual stimulation. Sounds of birds and calming music enhance the auditory environment. Local produce offers not just nourishment but a connection through taste. The feelings invoked by smooth stone and refreshing rainwater deepen the relationship between users and their surroundings.

Spatial Configuration

The layout features buffer spaces that include overhangs and courtyards, careful considerations in response to varied climate conditions. These elements facilitate the flow of natural light and air, optimizing the yoga area for peaceful practice. The entrance guides visitors through a corridor bordered by stone walls, leading to a significant focal point: a Buddha statue by a waterbody. This arrangement invites reflection and contemplation.

Materiality

Materials selected for construction are purposeful and aligned with the environment. Load-bearing stone walls provide strength and thermal comfort while blending well with the natural landscape. Wooden roofing and flooring add warmth and an inviting feel. Double-layered clear glass allows for expansive views while also supporting energy efficiency. Operable French windows encourage natural ventilation and enhance the connection with the outdoors.

The gentle sound of water flowing from a feature nearby adds tranquility to the atmosphere, enhancing the overall experience. This design, attentive to sensory details, creates a space that encourages mindfulness and a deeper connection to nature.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025: Celebrating Architectural Creativity and Visionary Unbuilt Designs with a Total Prize Fund of €100,000

`
Competition organisers

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 is an international architecture competition dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the value of unrealized architectural designs. It invites architects, designers, and students worldwide to submit visionary projects that have not yet been constructed, highlighting the power of ideas and the creativity behind the design process. By focusing on unbuilt work, the competition aims to bring forward concepts that shape the future of architecture and push the boundaries of the profession.

Participants can compete in three categories based on project scale: Small Wonders (up to 100 m²), Medium Marvels (101–999 m²), and Large Visions (over 1,000 m²). Each category winner will receive €20,000, and additional prizes include honorable mentions, student awards, and a special Best Presentation Award. Winning projects will gain significant international exposure through Buildner’s publicity campaign and a feature article on ArchDaily, providing a unique opportunity to showcase creative ideas to a global audience.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 encourages entrants to submit any type of unbuilt project, from conceptual visions to detailed designs, celebrating bold innovation without the constraints of realization. Important deadlines: registration closes on October 30, 2025; submissions are due by November 20, 2025; winners will be announced on December 17, 2025.
