The Trail House and Observation Tower stands out in a scenic landscape, designed to enhance the visitor experience through carefully thought-out spatial organization. The structure serves as a focal point for exploration, guiding visitors from the triangular entrance through essential spaces like the information center and café, eventually leading them to the nearby caves. The design reflects a core belief that space should be used judiciously, resulting in a plan that encourages meaningful interaction with the environment.

Spatial Economy

The project showcases an economy of space that reduces transitional areas, allowing for smooth movement throughout the building. By strategically incorporating seating and storage, the design creates an interconnected environment that enhances the relationship between functional spaces and the surrounding landscape. This intentional layout fosters a stronger connection to nature, enriching the overall visitor experience.

Material Expression

In terms of materiality, the building features stone extrusions that create openings, defining spaces and capturing light. These elements frame views, linking the interior with the outdoor scenery. The overall silhouette of the structure is simple yet partially lifted, allowing it to fit naturally into the setting while adding visual interest.

Circulation and Experience

A notable aspect of the design is the banner staircase, which offers a continuous pathway that invites upward movement. This staircase includes opportunities for visitors to pause and reflect at specific points, enhancing their journey through the space. Clear circulation paths provide direction, guiding people toward the viewing platform, where expansive views can be enjoyed.

Functional Integration

Attention to functional needs is evident throughout. The furniture follows the overarching design language, ensuring harmony in the space. The coffee counter flows from the back door to the café's storage area, also featuring a bookshelf that enhances usability. The entrance desk is thoughtfully designed with a dual-height feature, accommodating different staff levels. This careful integration of furniture helps to maintain functionality while supporting the overall design.

The observation tower's viewing platform rises above, offering visitors a chance to take in broad perspectives of the surrounding landscape, embodying the spirit of exploration and engagement with nature.
