Steel Framework Enhances Public Space for Community Interaction

Project in-detail

Constructed with a steel framework, the site serves as a community hub that fosters social interaction and accessibility while integrating sustainable principles within Kremm's urban landscape.
5 key facts about this project
01
The design prioritizes accessibility by integrating various modes of transport.
02
The steel framework provides a durable, low-maintenance structure suitable for high use.
03
Open areas are strategically designed to encourage social interaction and community engagement.
04
The location in Kremm enhances its role as a central hub for coffee culture.
05
Sustainable elements support eco-friendly practices within the urban environment.

New Rotime is located in Kremm, Finland, a region known for its high coffee consumption. The design creates a multifunctional space for relaxation and social interaction around coffee culture. It invites individuals to step away from the busyness of life and find moments of calm while engaging with others.

Design Intent

The design prioritizes accessibility and connectivity. It caters to a wide range of users and is situated in a busy area, making it easy to reach on foot or by various forms of transport like trams, buses, taxis, and bicycles. This location enhances visibility and encourages regular visits from the community.

Sustainability Approach

The focus on sustainability aligns with Finland's goal of reducing reliance on traditional public transport. Over half of the visitors in the area depend on these options for their daily activities. The design supports this need by providing easy access for those who travel by public transportation. Such considerations help create a more environmentally friendly urban lifestyle.

Material Consideration

The design incorporates motor and steel as key materials in its structure. These choices support durability while adding to the overall experience of the space. The robust construction ensures that it can handle the demands of everyday use, while its appearance remains inviting and cohesive with the surroundings.

The layout enhances social interaction, featuring open areas that allow for gatherings while still providing quiet spots for reflection. This thoughtful arrangement reinforces the space's purpose, improving the overall experience for both residents and visitors.
