5 key facts about this project
## Project Overview
Located by a lakeside, the design maximizes the relationship between music performances and natural surroundings, enriching the auditory experience through strategic architectural elements. This environment emphasizes the impact of proximity to water on sound propagation, allowing for an immersive experience that connects audiences with both the performance and the landscape.
## Spatial Strategy
The stage is innovatively designed as a "soundwave"-shaped platform elevated above the water, constructed from timber arranged to mimic soundwaves. This unique configuration enhances visibility and acoustic performance while preserving the ecological integrity of the site, avoiding extensive excavation. The stage not only serves functional requirements but also creates distinctive sound amplification effects due to its elevated position over the pond.
## Materiality and User Engagement
Material choices prioritize sustainability and environmental harmony. The deck is made from stained timber, contributing to acoustic properties, while tree-weave seating integrates paracord for flexibility and support. Concrete breeze blocks provide necessary stability, and fine clay serves as a natural pond lining, replacing plastic alternatives. Interactive sound sculptures, designed as musical instruments, invite audience participation and blur the lines between performer and observer, enhancing engagement within the space. The project also incorporates a repurposed shipping container as a bar facility, adding essential amenities while emphasizing sustainability. Temporary tarps are utilized for shelter, allowing for adaptability according to seasonal requirements, thus increasing the venue's utility.
